PP London Sumatra Indonesia also owns cocoa plantations in East Java, North Sulawesi and North Sumatra, as well as tea plantations in West Java. Lonsum operates four rubber factories (including four crumb rubber production lines that have a processing capacity of 42,720 tons per annum) and three sheet rubber production lines (with a processing capacity of 11,100 tons per annum). By the end of 2013, the company’s nucleus rubber plantation area covered 17,300 hectares, of which 28 percent is still immature. Lonsum’s rubber is produced in the estates on North Sumatra, South Sumatra and South Sulawesi.

Total annual processing capacity of these mills is 2,295,000 tons of fresh fruit bunches (FFB). It operates a total of 11 palm oil mills: four in North Sumatra, six in South Sumatra and one in East Kalimantan. As of 1 January 2014, Lonsum has a total of 89,845 hectares of oil palm plantations across its nucleus estates. Between 85 and 90 percent of total production is sold on the domestic market, the remainder exported. Rubber's share towards sales volume is roughly 8 percent. This also has the potential to inform Indorama's plans and their interactions with the Indonesian government, supporting their priority to restore the degraded land.Palm products accounted for around 85 percent of the company's sales volume in 2013. The approaches used by CIFOR will be applicable in future project sites in Indonesia and elsewhere. Through this study, CIFOR as a reputable international science-based organization, will provide Indorama with essential scientific information for the planned CO2 offsetting project in South Sumatera. Potential carbon benefit will be quantified using a model simulation and readily available data and proxies for estimating carbon sequestration from the proposed plantation. The assessment will be based on desk review, different lands use scenarios, i.e., peatland, degraded land, monoculture vs mixed plantation, for better selection of plantation area and type, to maximize the carbon benefit. This project aims to identify suitable tree species and their combination in South Sumatra targeted to capture 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 per year from the atmosphere by 2022.
